World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. is the parent company of the popular professional wrestling shows Raw, Smackdown, and ECW. The WWE for a long time was known as the WWF (World Wrestling Federation), but changed their name to World Wrestling Entertainment in 2000.
Beyond it's weekly televised shows, the WWE performs countless 'house shows', which are non-televised, live events. Furthermore, it holds monthly pay-per-view events which are generally the pinnacle show, featuring top match-ups with many of the federation's titles on the line.
Today it is by far the biggest brand of professional wrestling and is a publicly traded, pricately controlled entity.
